Sir Simon Russell Beale, the esteemed actor known for his role as Ser Simon Strong in House of The Dragon, has revealed his heartbreaking battle with colon cancer. After previously stepping away from a Royal Shakespeare Company production, Beale opens up about the toll his diagnosis has taken on him, and his determination to keep going despite the challenges.

In an emotional confession, Sir Simon Russell Beale shared with the public that his health struggle had remained a secret for eight months after being hospitalized following his work on House of The Dragon. The actor admitted that he was diagnosed with colon cancer shortly after finishing the series.
Speaking during a gathering at The Delaunay restaurant in London, Simon explained, “After finishing my run in Titus Andronicus in Stratford, I went on to House of The Dragon, and soon after, I had to be hospitalized, and they found I had colon cancer.”
The diagnosis was a blow to the actor, but he also expressed gratitude for the work that House of The Dragon and Titus Andronicus had given him. “The last eight months have been a tricky and painful journey, but stepping away from work has been the hardest part of it,” he shared.
Reflecting on his unexpected absence from the Titus Andronicus run at Hampstead Theatre in London, Beale explained, “I was heartbroken to leave the show, but I had no choice. The health battle has been a struggle, but I’m focused on recovering, and I hope to return to work soon.”
Despite the health setbacks, Beale is determined to remain active in his career. He has already signed on to narrate a puppet show version of Shakespeare’s Venus and Adonis, set to tour the UK this summer. This commitment shows Simon’s desire to keep moving forward while managing his diagnosis.
The actor, known for his roles in My Week with Marilyn, Mary Queen of Scots, and The Death of Stalin, has received an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues alike. He has expressed his gratitude for their well wishes and vows to return to work as soon as he is able.
In the meantime, House of The Dragon fans eagerly await the third season, which is set to premiere on June 22, 2026. The upcoming season promises to bring more intensity, intrigue, and drama as the conflict between the Black and Green factions escalates into war.
