The latest live semi-final of Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) on May 2 left viewers divided, not just over the performances, but over some eyebrow-raising comments from the judges. Amanda Holden, in particular, found herself at the center of a social media storm after making what many fans deemed “rude” remarks during magician Fabian Fox’s routine.
Fox, who had hoped to dazzle the judges with his sleight of hand, had the audience and panel members participating in a trick that required them to pick random slips of paper. As Fabian wrote down the answers on a notepad, the atmosphere seemed tense — and that’s when the comments came.
KSI, struggling to understand the trick, muttered, “I mean, I don’t know what that is,” while Amanda chimed in with her own critique: “That’s very bad handwriting.” The mic picked up both comments loud and clear, and viewers at home were quick to call out the pair’s lack of tact.
‘How Rude!’ Fans Outraged Over Amanda’s Sharp Comment
Fans were far from impressed with the harsh remarks, especially Amanda’s dig at Fabian’s handwriting. Social media was soon flooded with outraged posts from viewers who felt the comments were unnecessary and unkind.
One fan tweeted: “‘He’s got very bad handwriting.’ OMG Amanda.”
“Amanda judging his handwriting? Really?” said another.
“Amanda is so rude,” a third fan expressed, echoing the growing sentiment.
“Why are the judges being so rude? Unnecessary comments. Bad handwriting?” questioned another.

Others were equally critical, with one remarking, “Bit rude about his handwriting, Amanda,” while another added, “That comment about his handwriting was a little rude.”
It’s clear that while BGT is known for its high-stakes performances, the judges’ roles are just as under the microscope, especially when comments feel pointed or unnecessary.
A Slight Slip? Fabian Wins Judges Back with a Strong Finish
Despite the awkwardness, Fabian Fox eventually managed to turn things around with his act. Amanda, who had been quick to criticize his handwriting, later praised the magician’s routine, saying, “All I keep thinking about is the Royal Variety Performance and how amazing it would be. That audition was amazing.”

So was Amanda’s comment just an offhand remark? Or was it a harsh critique disguised as a casual observation? Either way, viewers definitely won’t be forgetting that moment anytime soon.
The moment serves as a reminder that BGT judges have the power to inspire, but also to provoke — and, sometimes, that comes with a cost.
