Pasha Kovalev has shared an emotional confession about his relationship with wife Rachel Riley, revealing just how much Strictly Come Dancing changed his life.
The dancer, who joined Strictly in 2011 and stayed with the show until his departure in 2018, opened up about the emotional toll the show took on him. While he had a successful career and was paired with many famous faces, it was during his time on Strictly that he met Rachel Riley – the woman who would eventually become his wife.
In 2013, Pasha and Rachel’s paths crossed, and it didn’t take long for sparks to fly. However, as Pasha admitted in a recent interview, the show’s demanding nature meant that over the years, his heart was given away to various dance partners. But Rachel was the one who ultimately captured his heart, and they tied the knot in 2019. The couple now shares two beautiful daughters, Maven and Noa.
Reflecting on his Strictly journey, Pasha shared with Heat Magazine: “It was time to move on, and I don’t regret it at all. But part of your heart stays with each partner. Then the next year, you have to find new energy and love to give to the next one. My heart was torn into pieces and given away to random people, so I had to make one of them my wife. Rachel says it was part of her Strictly contract.”
Despite the challenges of balancing a career on Strictly with his personal life, Pasha revealed that he and Rachel are “really happy” together and that she is definitely his “soulmate.”
The couple also gave insight into their growing family. Rachel recently admitted that she doesn’t foresee having more children, but the couple’s daughters are already showing an interest in following their father’s passion for dancing. Rachel shared that both Maven and Noa are currently taking ballet lessons, with Maven preparing for her first ballet exam and Noa getting ready for her first show. Though it’s still early days, the little ones already have their dad spinning them around the kitchen!
