The Today show family proves that even morning TV stars aren’t immune to life’s challenges. Amid months of highs and heartbreaking lows — including Savannah Guthrie’s mom Nancy’s disappearance, the death of Sheinelle Jones’ husband Uche Ojeh, and Dylan Dreyer’s divorce — the cast has remained a constant source of support for one another.
“We’re always there for each other 100 percent,” Dreyer tells PEOPLE during the 3rd Hour of Today in Williamsburg, Va., celebrating America’s 250th anniversary. “Sometimes when you’re going through something tough, it’s not what that person wants to talk about. But we’re here — to listen if you want, or just to bring some joy into your day.”
The nature of the show allows a brief escape from life’s stress, Dreyer explains. “Working at Today kind of shuts off the more stressful points in your life. You enjoy the moment with friends, forget about reality for a bit, but we’re always there to support each other.”
For veteran host Al Roker, who recently celebrated his 30th anniversary with the show, teamwork and camaraderie are key. “We celebrate the good times and rally around each other for the tough times,” he says. “There’s no greater group to work with — Dylan, Savannah, Craig [Melvin], Carson [Daly], Jenna [Bush Hager]. It’s a joy, really.”
The bonds extend beyond the studio. On the road, Roker and Dreyer make time to catch up on life’s moments. “Al always tells me what seat he’s in and says, ‘Try to get the seat next to me,’” Dreyer says. “We chit chat, talk, catch up, then go do our job.” Roker echoes the sentiment, praising the entire crew that travels with them, from producers to technical staff, making their tight schedules manageable.
Through personal hardships and public attention, the Today cast demonstrates the strength of friendship, teamwork, and unwavering support — proving that behind the cameras, a tight-knit family holds them together.
