Monty Don, the nationâs beloved gardening guru, has found himself in a spot of bother â not over weeds or pests, but a ÂŁ300 designer jacket.
The presenter was recently spotted on Gardenersâ World wearing a Barbour coat while simultaneously appearing in promotional material for the fashion brandâs spring/summer 2026 campaign. Barbour hailed him as âBritainâs most legendary gardenerâ and even crowned him âthe original pioneer of allotment-core,â but BBC bosses werenât quite so impressed.
đš Conflict of Interest?
According to BBC editorial rules, presenters must not appear on-air wearing items theyâre contracted to promote. Montyâs Barbour jacket â which also features heavily in the brandâs âWay of Lifeâ campaign â raised eyebrows because it appeared both on the show and across Gardenersâ World social media.
A BBC spokesperson told The Mirror:
âWe have clear guidelines around presentersâ commercial activities while working with the BBC. And Monty has been reminded of these guidelines.â
