Jake Quickenden has opened up about the breakdown of his marriage to Sophie Church, admitting that he and his wife “grew apart” and that their relationship had become “hard to function.” The former couple, who share sons Leo, five, and 16-month-old Kit, reportedly separated a few months ago after nearly four years of marriage

On Tuesday, Jake, 37, shared a family photo including Sophie and their children, alongside Sophie’s son Freddie, 12, from a previous relationship. He explained to his followers that he wanted to give some insight into their situation:
“Me and Sophie have unfortunately separated. It’s been a few months now. We’ve tried to keep it private to come to terms with it and navigate it properly, especially while it involves our beautiful children. But sometimes things are taken out of our hands.”
Jake emphasised that Sophie is “an amazing person and mother,” and spoke warmly about their shared moments:
“We have beautiful children together and they will always come first. I have respect and love for her and I want her to succeed in everything she does. I will always have her back. Unfortunately as a couple we just grew apart and it became hard to function together.”
He added that breakups don’t always require a single dramatic reason, saying:
“Many times in breakups people expect a huge reason. This isn’t like that — it’s two people growing apart and realising that happiness rests somewhere else.”
Jake and Sophie, 33, are focusing on co-parenting their children, with Jake saying:
“For now I’m going to concentrate on the boys, co-parenting in a healthy, loving way, which I know we will 100 per cent be able to do because we are already doing that. When the dust settles, we’ll pop round to each other for a brew to chat about the kids. I want nothing but the best for Sophie.”

The couple reportedly began dating in June 2018, with Jake proposing during a family holiday in Rhodes, Greece. They married in Ibiza, Spain, in September 2022.
Following the split, Jake has embraced his new single life, sharing a shirtless selfie on Instagram last month, highlighting his toned physique while working out amid a Bank Holiday heatwave. Alongside the photo, he posted a reflective message:
“Hope. The quiet belief that something good can rise from what is difficult, a small flame that keeps burning even when the world feels dark… At its core, hope is a promise that tomorrow may hold what today cannot yet reveal.”
Breaking his social media silence, Jake also posted a gallery of photos with his sons, writing:
“My boys… My world!!”
He replied to supportive followers, saying:
“Appreciate that, they are all that matter.”
Despite the split, Jake and Sophie are described as “incredibly amicable” and remain focused on raising their children together in a healthy and loving environment.
Their story is a reminder of the complexities of modern relationships — navigating love, parenthood, and personal growth, all while under the public eye. Fans have praised Jake’s openness and emphasis on co-parenting, highlighting his respect and care for Sophie as well as their children.
As Jake and Sophie chart the next chapter of their lives separately yet united in parenthood, the couple continues to maintain a supportive and respectful approach, showing that even amid heartbreak, family and children remain the top priority.
