Beverley Callard has shared a health update with fans after discovering a cyst in her leg following persistent pain. The Coronation Street star, 69, who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year, reassured followers on Instagram after doctors ruled out a blood clot.

“Good news—it’s definitely not a blood clot,” she said. “Apparently it’s a cyst, quite common, at the back of my knee. The pain persisted, so I had it checked.”
Callard also provided updates on her radiotherapy treatment at St. Luke’s Hospital, explaining she will undergo ten days of therapy in two five-day blocks with a weekend break in between. Despite the schedule, she confirmed she can continue working while awaiting the start of treatment.
Earlier, medics had expressed concern that she might have begun radiotherapy sooner after her diagnosis, but delays in transferring medical records from England to Ireland had postponed her treatment. She also previously had her lymph nodes removed as a precaution to prevent the cancer from spreading.
Throughout her updates, Callard has emphasized the importance of taking care of herself while navigating treatment. She shared, “It went okay, it wasn’t quite what I wanted to hear, but it’s a step forward. I’m hoping to start as soon as possible!”
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, affecting over 55,000 women in the UK annually and around 266,000 in the US. It typically begins in the ducts or lobules and can be invasive if it spreads to surrounding tissue. Risk factors include genetics, age, and lifestyle, though it can sometimes develop with no apparent cause. Symptoms often include painless lumps in the breast or swelling in the armpit.
Treatment options vary and may include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and hormone therapies, often in combination. Early detection dramatically improves prognosis, with routine mammograms helping identify tumors before they spread.
Beverley Callard’s candid updates highlight both her resilience and the realities of navigating cancer treatment while maintaining her professional life, offering inspiration to fans everywhere.
