In a twist no one expected, Alex Reid, the ex-husband of Katie Price, has spoken out with concern for his former spouse, despite a history of fiery public battles. The pair’s whirlwind marriage, which ended in a bitter divorce in 2011, has long been marked by heated arguments, vicious comments, and tabloid drama.
Now, amid Katie Price’s ongoing marital troubles with current husband Lee Andrews, Reid has offered a rare show of compassion. Speaking on The Spirit Chair podcast, he admitted: “Is that bad? I have, weirdly, compassion for her, because I see, it’s not a nice life.” He went on to express worry over the extreme pressures Price faces in the public eye: “I see the bitterness and what’s going on on the outside with the face and the boobs and the bum, and it’s not healthy.”
Friends of the former couple were shocked by Reid’s candid words. Price and Reid met in 2009 at Liberty X star Michelle Heaton’s 30th birthday party in London, just months after Price’s split from Peter Andre. Their whirlwind romance led to a Las Vegas wedding in February 2010, but the marriage lasted only 11 months, ending amid accusations that Reid had used Price to boost his media profile.
Reid has previously blamed Price for pushing him into public cross-dressing appearances, first seen at her 2009 Selfridges book launch. Their public feud escalated over the years, including Price allegedly showing explicit footage of Reid to a TV audience in 2018, resulting in a five-year injunction and a £140,000 legal settlement.
Despite years of animosity, Reid says he still monitors Price’s situation, particularly regarding her current husband. He shared: “Like an ex-soldier, I left the Army because I don’t want to kill people, but I do believe in a warrior class… if they’re shooting at my kids, I’m going to defend myself. That’s unfortunately how I see the relationship with Kate.”
Reid, now 50, has grown in unexpected ways since their very public battles, balancing family life with compassion and caution. He is father to his twins Phoenix Bobby and Hunter George, born via IVF with fiancée Nikki Manashe, and daughter Anastasia from a long IVF struggle, alongside his daughter Dolly, 10, with ex Chantelle Houghton.
A source close to Price revealed: “Katie will be very surprised to hear this come from Alex’s mouth. She thinks he despises her, and in many ways, she’s right—but Alex seems to have matured.”
Although Reid’s concern may raise eyebrows, he continues to tread carefully in the public sphere. “I kind of forget I was part of that craziness. I don’t really think about it…you don’t want to go and find out what’s going on all the time,” he explained, emphasizing a measured approach to his complicated history with Price.
