Lauren Silverman has spoken candidly about the moment she discovered she was pregnant with her son Eric, following her relationship with music executive Simon Cowell during a highly emotional and difficult period in her life.

Speaking on Giovanna Fletcher’s podcast Happy Mum, Lauren, 48, reflected on the intense mix of emotions she experienced at the time, describing it as one of the most challenging chapters of her life.

When asked how she felt upon learning she was expecting Eric, Lauren admitted the situation marked a major turning point in her personal life and marriage.

“There are so many emotions that went with that because it was like the end of my marriage,” she said. “It was one of the hardest times of my life. The way people looked at me, I was on the cover of every magazine. There were constant news stories about it, and it was awful.”

Lauren explained that the public attention added even more pressure during an already emotional time, making it difficult to process everything she was going through privately.
She added that the experience eventually became a defining moment in her personal growth, helping her reflect on her life more deeply in later years.
“That was really the pivotal moment when I stopped drinking recently,” she revealed. “It helped me look within myself and accept my feelings. With that comes a sense of freedom and independence.”
Lauren also spoke about the impact the situation had on her marriage to businessman Andrew Silverman, which later ended in divorce. The couple had been married for around ten years before separating, with the relationship becoming the subject of intense media attention at the time.
Reports had previously suggested that Lauren’s relationship with Simon developed while she was still married, during a trip in Barbados where both families were present.
Following the breakdown of her marriage, Lauren later began a relationship with Simon Cowell, and the pair eventually became engaged in 2021. The couple now share a son, Eric, who was born in 2014.
Simon himself has previously spoken about the situation, admitting he felt regret over the impact on friendships but also describing the arrival of his son as a life-changing moment.
“I let down a friend and I feel bad about that,” he said in a past interview. “But the good thing is I’m having a baby and never thought I would.”
Lauren also shared emotional reflections on Simon’s reaction after Eric’s birth, describing him as deeply moved and changed by becoming a father.
She explained that while Simon had always been in control of his life and career, fatherhood brought a new emotional depth and perspective.
“He was so emotional,” she said. “I remember thinking his life is about to change in ways he doesn’t even realise yet.”
Since then, Lauren and Simon have focused on raising their son together, with both parents prioritising his privacy and wellbeing.
The couple have chosen to keep Eric largely out of the public eye and have previously spoken about limiting his exposure to social media.
Lauren has also become an advocate for online safety, calling for stronger protections for children in the digital space.
Her comments come as the UK government introduces new measures aimed at improving online safety for young users, including tighter restrictions on access to major social media platforms.
Reflecting on her life today, Lauren said she had deliberately maintained privacy for many years to protect her family, but now feels more comfortable speaking openly about her experiences.
“For years I stayed private because I wanted to protect my children,” she said. “But now I feel able to share my story in my own way.”
She added that despite the challenges she has faced, she feels a sense of clarity and acceptance about her journey so far.
