Savannah Guthrie has finally shed light on her latest absence from NBC’s Today, after spending several days away from the studio and leaving viewers wondering where she had gone.
The veteran news anchor has not appeared on the morning program since Tuesday, with fellow Today host Sheinelle Jones stepping in alongside Craig Melvin during her time away.
Savannah appeared to offer an explanation through a series of Instagram Story updates shared on Wednesday.
Just weeks after announcing on Today that she would host a brand-new Wordle-inspired game show, the 54-year-old television personality hinted that work on the project is already well underway behind the scenes.
One of her posts featured a Wordle-style message displaying the words “Greet,” “Aloha,” and “Hello.”
Alongside the image, Savannah simply wrote, “Coming soon,” teasing the upcoming launch of the highly anticipated series.
She later shared another image showing signage featuring the Wordle logo along with her initials, further suggesting that production is progressing.
Savannah also revealed that she is currently in Los Angeles, where she made a stop at The Voice studio to spend time with longtime friend and Today colleague Carson Daly.
Carson, who regularly appears alongside Savannah on Today, also serves as the longtime host of NBC’s hit singing competition.
“When in LA, see your bestie @carsondaly,” Savannah captioned a photo of the pair smiling together backstage.
Another image showed her relaxing in one of The Voice’s iconic red coaches’ chairs.
“In @carsondaly’s house,” she joked in the post.
Meanwhile, back in New York, Sheinelle Jones has been helping anchor the program alongside Craig Melvin while Savannah remains “on assignment.”
According to People, Savannah is expected to return to Today on Monday.
Her temporary absence had not entirely surprised viewers, especially after reports emerged that filming for the new game show would begin this summer.
Earlier reports suggested that the Jimmy Fallon executive-produced project would be filmed in the United Kingdom.
The announcement of Savannah’s new television venture has generated mixed reactions online, particularly as the search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie, remains ongoing.
Despite the emotional circumstances, a source previously told The U.S. Sun that those closest to Savannah were not surprised she accepted another major project.
“Work is how she copes, how she focuses, and honestly how she survives difficult moments,” the insider explained.
Earlier this year, speculation circulated that Savannah might not return to Today after taking an extended leave to assist in efforts to locate her missing mother.
The NBC journalist shared an emotional reunion with colleagues in early March when she briefly returned to the studio, according to photos obtained by The U.S. Sun.
She officially resumed her role on April 6, though the search for her mother continues. Nancy Guthrie was reportedly abducted from her Tuscan home on February 1, and the investigation remains active.
