Gogglebox favourite Shaun Malone has left fans deeply concerned after revealing he is recovering in hospital following brain surgery.
The 31-year-old television personality shared a candid photo from his hospital bed, showing staples running across his scalp as he updated followers on his recovery. While trying to keep his trademark sense of humour, Shaun admitted the timing couldn’t have been worse.
“Heatwave is a terrible time to be stuck in hospital until Friday,” he wrote on Instagram, before adding, “Brain surgery is deffo not the highlight of my year.”
The image quickly sparked an outpouring of support from fans who have followed Shaun and the Malone family on Channel 4’s Gogglebox for more than a decade.
A Health Battle That Began Years Ago

For many viewers, Shaun’s latest hospital stay is a painful reminder of a life-threatening medical crisis he survived long before becoming a television favourite.
Back in 2010, what initially appeared to be a routine case of sinusitis turned into a devastating brain infection after bacteria spread to his brain, causing dangerous swelling.
Speaking previously on the Coaching From The Sofa podcast, Shaun recalled how quickly everything changed.
His condition deteriorated so rapidly that he collapsed at home and was rushed to hospital, where doctors warned his parents he had less than a 10% chance of survival.
Emergency surgery lasted six hours as surgeons removed part of his skull to relieve the swelling.
Shaun then spent two weeks in a coma.
Learning to Live Again
Waking up was only the beginning of an incredibly difficult journey.
The infection left Shaun with brain damage that affected his memory and caused stroke-like symptoms down the left side of his body. He lost movement in his arm, leg and part of his face, forcing him to relearn how to walk through months of rehabilitation.
Despite the overwhelming odds, Shaun gradually rebuilt his life, later becoming involved in football coaching while inspiring others with his resilience.
His mother, Julie Malone, has previously described the terrifying experience as every parent’s worst nightmare, recalling how doctors initially struggled to find an intensive care bed while Shaun’s condition became increasingly critical.

Although Shaun has not revealed why he recently underwent another brain operation, his latest update has prompted thousands of supportive messages from fans wishing him a smooth recovery.
Known for bringing laughter into viewers’ living rooms alongside parents Tom and Julie on Gogglebox, Shaun is once again showing remarkable courage during another difficult chapter in his health journey.
