Sara Cox is ready to take over BBC Radio 2’s breakfast show on July 6, and she’s making it clear: she won’t be drawn into discussions about her axed pal Scott Mills.
The 51-year-old broadcaster, who’s been with the BBC for nearly three decades, told Sunday Times Magazine she knows she can handle the “huge” role with confidence. “It’s huge but I’m ready… the minute I open my mic, I’ll be fine,” she said.
Sara also addressed Scott’s recent scandal, where allegations from 2018 resurfaced, resulting in his shocking sacking. She refused to comment on the matter: “I completely understand why you’re asking but I know no more than you do about the whole thing.”
Reflecting on her own ups and downs, Sara admitted that quieter periods in her career had been a blessing in disguise, allowing her to focus on her young children. “I could do all the nursery runs and all the school runs… the quieter times have been more of a blessing than a curse,” she added.
Fans can expect Sara to bring her 28 years of radio experience to the breakfast slot, combining professionalism with the warmth and humour listeners know her for.
