Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd has marked the 10-year anniversary of the “most challenging” story he’s played during his time on the soap. Since 2000, Shepherd has played the role of David Platt and has been part of some dramatic plotlines in that time.
From pushing his mother Gail Platt down the stairs to his many notable feuds with several Weatherfield residents, David’s story took a big turn when he entered a tumultuous relationship with Kylie Platt (Paula Lane), who was also Becky McDonald’s (Katherine Kelly) half-sister.
The pair ended up getting married and welcoming a daughter, Lily Platt. However, after deciding to relocate their family to Barbados after the death of Kylie’s ex Callum Logan by her hand, Kylie herself was later killed on the streets by Clayton Higgs, and she died in David’s arms.
With the episode having taken place 10 years ago in 2016, Shepherd decided to commemorate the dramatic event with an Instagram post. Sharing pictures of himself and Lane on set and in character, he described the storyline as being “the most challenging” he’d ever played.
“10 years ago we said goodbye to Kylie Platt, here’s some behind the scenes pictures and vids, it was a great story & the most challenging story I’ve played. Forever missed.” he wrote.
While Shepherd received a comment from his on-screen sister, Tina O’Brien, which included numerous emojis, Lane also popped up in the comment section.
She wrote: “Our song was on the radio the other day and everytime it reminds me…Lana Del Rey – video games! Yep we were great!”
In 2016, Lane announced that she’d be leaving Corrie to go on maternity leave, adding that the decision to leave the soap hadn’t been an easy one. She continued: “I have enjoyed every moment of my time on Coronation Street and learnt so much in the process.
“I have an amazing on-screen family who have become friends for life so this decision was not taken lightly. But sometimes you just have to follow your heart and I am excited about what the future has to offer both personally and professionally.”
Since her departure from Corrie, Lane has starred in numerous TV shows, including Call The Midwife, Father Brown and City 17. She even had a regular role in Emmerdale as Ella Forster until 2025.
