For years, it’s been one of Britain’s most divisive comedies — loved by millions, mocked by critics, and always surrounded by controversy. But now, Mrs Brown’s Boys is back for its long-awaited Season 5… and the internet is buzzing with shock, delight, and disbelief.

The new season — filmed in May 2025 — made a surprise return on 1 August, with all episodes dropping at once on BBC iPlayer. Fans didn’t have to wait week by week; instead, they binged straight through the entire run, with the final episode airing on TV by 22 August.
And while the critics may roll their eyes, audiences are proving once again why Agnes Brown, with her razor-sharp wit and unfiltered charm, remains a force in British television. Social media exploded within hours of the premiere, with viewers posting everything from laughing-crying emojis to nostalgic throwbacks of their favourite moments.

“They said it was outdated… but I laughed so hard I cried,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“Like it or not — Mrs Brown is still queen of the living room,” another added.
The comeback hasn’t been without drama. Over the years, Mrs Brown’s Boys has faced constant criticism over its humour, style, and even behind-the-scenes tensions. Yet, Brendan O’Carroll and the cast have powered through it all, bringing back the chaotic, feel-good humour that first made the show a primetime staple.
What’s new this season? Expect bigger family feuds, outrageous one-liners, and those classic unscripted moments where cast members break character and the studio audience roars. In true Mrs Brown fashion, the show doubles down on the very things that made it famous — and refuses to apologise for any of it.
Love it or hate it, Season 5 has cemented one thing: Mrs Brown’s Boys isn’t going anywhere. And judging by the record-breaking iPlayer streams, the Brown family might be causing mischief on our screens for a long time yet.
