Alison Hammond has backtracked on her earlier comments about turning down the hosting role for Strictly Come Dancing, claiming she’d be “crazy” to reject such an opportunity if it were offered to her. The 51-year-old star, known for her role on This Morning and The Great British Bake Off, had previously distanced herself from the coveted position, citing her busy schedule.
In an earlier interview, Alison told Radio Times: “I’m so busy, babes, I’m not sure it’s going to happen. It’s unrealistic.” However, speaking to Metro in a more recent interview, Alison clarified her position, stating: “Do you think I would turn down Strictly if it came along? Who would turn down Strictly! They’d be absolutely crazy.”
She continued, admitting that she had tried to “back them off” as speculation about her becoming the new host swirled. “Everyone keeps putting my name in the mix and they’re ruining my chances of even getting on to Strictly, do you know what I mean?”
Alison, who has been working on multiple projects, now says she is ready for the challenge: “I’m not too busy. I’m fitter than I’ve ever been before. I can do Strictly. I can do it all.”
It comes as the BBC continues to search for the next host of Strictly Come Dancing after the departure of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. Bradley Walsh is reportedly one of the frontrunners, despite his busy schedule with Gladiators and The Chase. Could this be the job of a lifetime for Bradley, or will he have to make a tough choice?
