Jesy Nelson shared a magical moment with her twin daughters that melted hearts everywhere. In a touching Instagram clip, her 11-month-old daughter Story Monroe spoke her very first word: “Muma.” Overjoyed, Jesy captioned the video: “Story said Muma for the first time, my life is complete.”
For every parent, a first word is unforgettable—but for Jesy, it carries extra weight. Her twin girls, Story and Ocean Jade, were diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) earlier this year, a rare condition that affects muscle strength and movement. Despite the challenges, moments like this offer a rare and shining glimpse of joy.
Jesy has been candid about the emotional journey, sharing the highs and lows—from hospital visits to adjusting their daily care. Holding their colorful leg splints adorned with hearts and butterflies, she reflected: “It made me sad… but have you ever seen anything cuter in your life?”
Beyond these tender milestones, Jesy is using her platform to advocate for SMA awareness, campaigning for newborn screening across England. While Scotland has begun testing all babies, Jesy’s efforts aim to ensure every child has the best chance possible.
Even amidst heartbreak and uncertainty, hearing Story’s first word brought a moment of pure happiness—a bright, unforgettable memory that Jesy and her family will treasure forever. ✨
