As A League Of Their Own bows out, one moment has sparked a bigger question: when comedy revisits real pain, who’s actually laughing?

The final run of A League Of Their Own has delivered laughs, nostalgia — and one jaw-dropping moment that left viewers squirming in their seats.

During last week’s episode, Jamie Redknapp found himself blindsided when a throwaway question spiralled into a merciless joke about his failed marriage to ex-wife Louise — and his attempt to laugh it off only deepened the cringe.

Jamie, 52, who split from the singer in 2017 after 20 years together, was sitting alongside Jill Scott, Micah Richards and host Romesh Ranganathan when the conversation took a sharp turn.

Romesh casually asked Micah:
“What do you have on your bedroom walls?”

“Kelly Brook,” Micah replied — before grinning and adding:
“Louise Redknapp.”

Cue instant chaos.

The studio erupted as Jamie buried his head in his hands, laughing in disbelief, while Jill piled on with:
“Sounds like me and Meeks had the same bedroom wall!”

It was brutal. And it wasn’t over.

Clearly rattled, Jamie attempted a comeback — comparing Micah and Jill to “a s**t Britney and Justin Spears”… before realising mid-sentence he’d got it spectacularly wrong.

“Justin Timberlake!” he corrected himself.

Romesh pounced instantly:
“You’re like Justin bloody Spears and Britney bloody Timberlake.”

Even Jamie had to admit defeat.
“I’ve had that in my head for about ten minutes,” he confessed, as Micah twisted the knife:
“He thought it was so good. He was waiting for that moment.”

Viewers at home weren’t laughing — they were cringing.

While Jamie has since remarried Swedish model Frida Andersson and welcomed a son, the joke reopened a chapter many believe should have stayed closed — particularly given the fallout Louise endured after their split.

Louise has previously spoken about being vilified in the wake of their divorce, telling The Independent:
“I was the villain. Anything I said was wrong. To defend myself was wrong. To not defend myself was wrong.”

Her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2016 triggered intense scrutiny — scrutiny she later admitted nearly broke her.

“If I didn’t have my kids, I think I would have just given up,” she revealed on Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast.

The former couple share sons Charles, 21, and Beau, 17, and have co-parented since their split — but the scars of that period clearly remain.

As A League Of Their Own heads towards its final episode, the moment has sparked debate over whether comedy crossed a line — and proved that sometimes, the most painful punchlines are the ones that land too close to home.

And for Jamie Redknapp, the joke wasn’t just awkward.

It backfired — spectacularly.
