For years, viewers have been familiar with James’ successful career and his on-screen presence, and for much of that time, his marriage to Annabel, 56, an antique expert and animal lover, was by his side. Married in 1997, they had a daughter, Arabella, in 2008. However, this week, the surprising news emerged that James, 53, had ended his marriage with Annabel. And what’s even more unexpected? He has tied the knot again – this time with Ed Otter, who is 18 years his junior.

In a quiet ceremony in September, James and Ed exchanged vows with just 50 guests in attendance, including his daughter Arabella, who has welcomed Ed as a second father. Ed, a Toys, Trains, and Juvenalia Specialist at his auction house, also shares a professional background with Annabel, having worked at the same company in the past. James revealed that working with Ed has been much smoother than with his ex-wife, though he didn’t elaborate further on his relationship with Annabel.

James recently sat down for an exclusive interview where he reflected on his emotional journey to love again after his split with Annabel. He openly admitted that he wasn’t expecting to marry again, but the connection he felt with Ed was undeniable from the start. “Was it love at first sight? Pretty much, yeah,” he confessed. The pair first met 15 years ago at a pub in Derbyshire, bonding over their mutual love for animals and fine antiques.

Interestingly, James and Ed had initially considered eloping to Yellowstone National Park in America, but after much thought, they decided to include their closest family members, including James’ daughter, Arabella, in their wedding. Today, Arabella calls both James and Ed “Dad,” a sign of how well they have all bonded as a family.

James also shared that his wedding day was marked by a health scare. The former heart attack survivor revealed that his heart rate spiked to over 250 beats per minute – far above the normal range of 60 to 100 beats. This incident was a reminder of his ongoing heart condition, which has seen him through two cardiac arrests in the past. He explained how his cardiologist had cautioned him to avoid stress, but James remains undeterred, planning to continue his charity work and auctions despite the challenges.

It was just a few years ago that James experienced a terrifying cardiac arrest while at an equestrian centre. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan was there to administer life-saving CPR, and James considers himself incredibly fortunate to be alive today. “He saved my life, and I’ll always be grateful for that,” James said.

In the midst of personal health challenges, James has continued to build his successful career in the arts and antiques world, starting with a humble placement at a local auction house in Nottingham. Today, he runs his own saleroom, Bamfords Auctioneers, in Derbyshire, which was founded with his parents. On-screen, he has become a staple of UK auction shows, including Flog It!, Bargain Hunt, and Antiques Road Trip.

Alongside his work in the auction world, James has dedicated his time to the Born Free Foundation, a charity focused on wildlife rescue and conservation, and has played a key role in raising funds for the cause.

James’ story of love, loss, and survival is truly inspiring, and his new chapter with Ed marks a fresh and exciting start. Stay tuned for more updates on his journey, both personal and professional.
