Barry Manilow, 82, is battling through the tough recovery process following a life-changing cancer surgery, and he’s giving fans a glimmer of hope with a heartening new Instagram video. Despite the “agonizing” road ahead, the legendary singer revealed he’s on the mend and brimming with optimism as he takes time away from the stage.

The singer of the iconic hit “Copacabana” had to put his tour on hold after a cancerous spot was discovered on his lung. This shocking revelation came in December, but the good news? Barry isn’t facing chemotherapy or radiation after the surgery.
The beloved singer shared the heartwarming update on his Instagram this Tuesday, thanking his followers for their unwavering support over the past few months.
“Hi, everyone, Barry Manilow here!” he began with his signature cheerfulness. “Well, looks like I made it, and I look fabulous, right? You know, with everything that’s going on in the world, I wanted to check in and share some good news. In fact, it’s great news!”
In the video, Manilow sounded upbeat, celebrating the success of his latest single, Once Before I Go, which rocketed into the top 10 of Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart. “I’m 100 years old with a top 10 single on the pop charts,” he joked, humorously quoting his grandmother’s words: “Next thing you know, they’ll be walking on the moon.”
But beyond the jokes, Barry was sincere in expressing his gratitude for the support he’s received from fans and family. “It’s been a long ride and, since I have no patience, it’s been agony,” he admitted. “But I’m getting stronger, I have great doctors, and I can’t wait to get back on stage. What a time it’s been. Hey, that’s the name of my new album. It comes out real soon, and I can’t wait to show you these songs!”
Barry’s fans have been rooting for him ever since he was diagnosed with stage one lung cancer, which came to light after he suffered two weeks of bronchitis. The discovery led to surgery in December to remove the cancerous spot, and Barry assured everyone that it had not spread, giving hope to his supporters.
While he’s had to postpone numerous shows in January, February, and March, Barry’s spirit remains uncrushed. He is determined to get back on stage once his recovery allows it. “My body isn’t ready for a 90-minute concert,” he shared, noting how he’s been working hard with physical therapy but can only sing a few songs at a time right now.
“Once I get the green light from my doctors, I’m back at it! I have a lot more to do, and I’m looking forward to the next century of making music together with all of you,” Barry concluded with a smile, never missing the chance to show his undying love for his fans.
It’s not all smooth sailing, though. In addition to canceling several dates on his U.S. tour, Barry also had to reschedule his Las Vegas residency in February. Still, with his signature resilience, Barry keeps moving forward, one step at a time.
Stay tuned as this journey of strength and recovery continues for the legendary star! 💖
