Beloved Coronation Street legend Bev Callard has given fans a deeply personal update from her hospital bed, revealing a new diagnosis and confirming she will soon begin radiotherapy in her ongoing fight against breast cancer.
The 69-year-old soap icon, who shot to fame as Liz McDonald in 1989, has been candid about her health journey since revealing her diagnosis earlier this year. Posting a heartfelt video on Instagram, Bev showed herself on a hospital bed as she walked fans through the day’s gruelling tests and scans.
“So far, blood pressure done… that’s high, of course, because I’m nervous,” she shared with a wry smile. “They’ve taken blood, blood oxygen levels, and now they’re seeing if I can fit in for a scan before the blood test results are ready, because those take about three hours.”
Bev had initially feared a blood clot but was relieved to learn the scans revealed something more common—a cyst behind her knee. “I was panicked a little bit yesterday, but I’m okay,” she reassured followers.
The actress also revealed her radiotherapy schedule, opening up about the intense treatment ahead: “I’ll be having 10 days of radiotherapy—five consecutive days, then a weekend off, then five more days. I’m not sure when it starts yet.”
Fans immediately rallied around Bev, flooding the post with messages of love and encouragement:
“Sending love, beaut!”
“Good luck with the radiotherapy—hope all goes to plan!”
“You’re an inspiration, Bev, always bringing light to people’s lives.”
Despite the challenges, Bev continues to shine professionally. She recently appeared on I’m A Celebrity… South Africa, though she had to withdraw on medical grounds, and now stars as Lily in the Irish soap Fair City.
From Coronation Street to reality TV and now a new role in Ireland, Bev Callard’s resilience both on-screen and off has made her a fan favourite—and a beacon of strength for those following her cancer journey. 💫
