Beverley Callard, star of I’m A Celebrity… South Africa and Coronation Street, has provided an important update on her ongoing battle with cancer. The 69-year-old actress, who made her name playing Liz McDonald on Corrie, had earlier revealed her breast cancer diagnosis in February, and now she’s shared details on her recent surgery.
The actress, known for her candidness, posted an update on Instagram where she shared that the operation had gone well, but some challenges remain. “The surgery went really well,” she said. “They managed to cut the cancer out, which is great news, and they also removed three lymph nodes to check if the cancer had spread. Unfortunately, it had reached the first lymph node, but not the second or third.”
Beverley went on to explain that the lymph nodes are like a “staircase”—if the cancer reaches the first step, it could continue to climb. Thankfully, her doctors are optimistic, though Beverley still has a waiting period ahead. “The next step is to send those results to America to see how aggressive the cancer is,” she said. “If it’s aggressive, I’ll have to undergo chemotherapy first, followed by radiotherapy. If it’s not, I’ll proceed directly with radiotherapy as planned.”
Despite the uncertainty, Beverley remained positive: “It’s a bit of a waiting game, but the good news is that the surgery went well. It’s still worrying because it’s in the lymph nodes, but I’ll get through it.”
The I’m A Celebrity star has been incredibly open about her journey, keeping her followers updated at each stage. She also reflected on how it has affected her daily life, mentioning that while waiting for results, she’s kept busy with painting. “I’ve been painting all day, and I’m hoping to finish this room for when Jon gets back,” she said, referring to her husband Jon McEwan.
This ongoing battle with cancer comes after Beverley relocated to Ireland with Jon to work on the BBC soap Fair City. Just before filming began, she received the diagnosis but continued to work through the shock. Beverley’s resilience continues to inspire her followers as she navigates this difficult journey.
