The long-awaited return of Britain’s Got Talent has failed to hit the high note producers may have hoped for — after frustrated viewers flooded social media branding the launch episode “boring,” “predictable,” and “the same thing over and over again.”
Saturday night’s opening show, which promised fresh talent and jaw-dropping performances, instead sparked a wave of complaints from fans who claimed they had seen it all before. From familiar dance routines to novelty acts that viewers say feel recycled, many accused the ITV hit of losing its spark.
Some disgruntled fans even threatened to abandon the programme altogether, claiming rival shows were now offering more originality and excitement.
‘Nothing New, Nothing Shocking’
As the first auditions aired, viewers were quick to share their disappointment online. Several complained that the acts felt formulaic, with one writing: “Is it just me, or is this literally the same show every year?” Another added: “We’ve waited months for this… and it’s just more of the same.”
Others went further, saying they were considering switching channels altogether if the series doesn’t deliver something unexpected soon.
Judges Under Scrutiny
The judging panel — led once again by Simon Cowell — also came under fire, with some viewers accusing the show of relying too heavily on familiar faces and predictable reactions rather than letting the talent speak for itself.
While the judges praised several acts as “incredible” and “world-class,” not everyone at home agreed.
Still Early Days — But Warning Signs?
Despite the backlash, loyal fans were quick to defend the programme, arguing that it’s far too early to judge a full series based on just one episode. Supporters pointed out that BGT has a history of surprising audiences later in the competition — often when viewers least expect it.
Producers will no doubt be hoping upcoming episodes can silence critics and reignite the excitement that once made the show unmissable Saturday-night television.
For now, though, the message from parts of the audience is clear: viewers want something new — and they want it fast.
