Harriet Cowan has revealed she was rushed to hospital this week after a terrifying farming accident that left her needing emergency surgery.
The Clarkson’s Farm star, 24, took to social media on Monday night to explain she had chopped off the end of her finger in what she described as a “horrific” incident involving a log splitter.
Sharing a series of graphic images showing the injury before surgery — alongside a photo of her finger stitched back on — Harriet offered a candid update after what she admitted had been a deeply difficult week.
“Sorry I’ve been quiet!” she wrote.
“Been a crappy week. Had a run in with a log splitter, chopped the end of my finger off — but after a quick surgery they stitched it back on!!”
Despite the shock and pain of the ordeal, Harriet struck a resilient tone, confirming she is already preparing for the demanding weeks ahead on the farm.
“Lambing starts now,” she added, before paying tribute to the medics who treated her.
“A big thank you to the amazing team at Pulvertaft Hand Clinic.”
The frightening accident comes at a pivotal moment in Harriet’s career, just weeks after she secured a brand-new role away from the hit Amazon Prime farming series.
The hugely popular documentary show — which follows Jeremy Clarkson running Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds — first aired in 2021 and has since enjoyed five successful series, featuring fan favourites including Kaleb Cooper, Lisa Hogan, Charlie Ireland and Gerald Cooper.
Harriet joined the cast during series four last year while Kaleb was away, quickly winning viewers over with her calm authority, humour and hands-on farming skills.
Last month, it was announced she would be stepping into a presenting role on Channel 4’s new digital series Tiny Farmers.
The programme sees Harriet team up with comedian Jessica Knappett, alongside hen experts Avril and Michael, as they guide four children through the realities of becoming future egg farmers — from animal welfare and food production to cooking skills, all while testing whether the youngsters will “thrive or scramble under pressure”.
Tiny Farmers launched on Channel 4’s YouTube channel on January 19, 2026, with the broadcaster praising Harriet’s “infectious enthusiasm” and natural ability to connect with both children and viewers.
Away from television, Harriet has also undergone a major life shift. Last year, she revealed she had quit her nursing job after her farming and TV career took off, admitting she had fully caught the “farming bug”.
For years, she balanced demanding NHS shifts with early mornings and long days on her family’s farm in Belper, Derbyshire. But following her success on Clarkson’s Farm, she confirmed agriculture is now her full-time focus — while still planning to take occasional NHS bank shifts.
“The cat’s somewhat out of the bag,” she previously told fans.
“It’s true, I’m no longer nursing because I got the bug. The farming bug. I’ve always had it — but now I finally can make it work.”
She has also announced plans to expand her online presence with her own YouTube channel, Harriet On The Farm, giving followers a closer look at rural life beyond the cameras.
And despite a week that ended in hospital and surgery, Harriet’s determined update makes one thing clear: she has no intention of slowing down — even after a scare that could have stopped many in their tracks.
