Coronation Street star Beverley Callard has opened up tearfully about her battle with cancer, admitting she is “in denial” as she awaits results following her surgery. The actress, who famously played Liz McDonald on the ITV soap for over 30 years, was diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer earlier this year and had surgery shortly after.
Now, still awaiting the crucial results to confirm whether she is cancer-free, Beverley has been reflecting on her journey. Having relocated to Ireland to star in Fair City, Beverley had to switch GPs, and during her appointment, she realized just how much she’s been avoiding the situation. “It made me realize that I’m in denial a lot of the time,” Beverley shared on Instagram, visibly emotional.
Speaking in a candid video, Beverley revealed how she felt on her birthday, saying: “Today has been a weird day, the last few days have been really weird… I had my nails done but aside from that, we just had quite an easy day.” She went on to explain how she had to talk about her diagnosis with her new GP, and it made her face the reality of the situation for the first time.

“Sometimes I think, even though they’ve operated on me, maybe they were wrong and I didn’t have it,” she admitted. “It just made me go flat because I have to face it properly.”
The 69-year-old star, who had her birthday just last weekend, is waiting to find out if the surgery was successful and whether the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. As she continues to hold out hope, Beverley maintains a positive outlook, saying, “I have a feeling I will be cancer-free.”
She added: “If I am cancer-free, I will begin radiotherapy in a few weeks. If not, we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
The emotional update from the I’m A Celeb star has resonated with many fans, showing her strength and vulnerability during a difficult time.
