Coronation Street has given fans a glimpse of its first-ever successful lesbian wedding, but it’s not without drama! Carla Connor and Lisa Swain will tie the knot next week, making Weatherfield history. But in typical soap style, their big day takes a twisted turn when their original wedding venue cancels at the last minute.
Lisa quickly enlists Sally Metcalfe to help arrange a surprise wedding reception in Underworld, and despite the chaos, Carla is just happy to marry Lisa, no matter the hour or venue. “It’s about intimacy between them,” actress Vicky Myers explained. “Carla just wants to marry Lisa, no big fuss, just the two of them.”

In a heartwarming scene, Carla and Lisa finally exchange vows, but the wedding is marred by a shocking murder. When a tragic scream is heard, the couple mistakes it for a fox and continues to enjoy their fireworks, oblivious to the danger.
Before this, Coronation Street had never aired a successful lesbian wedding. Sophie Webster’s wedding was interrupted when she was jilted at the altar in 2011, and Rana Habeeb tragically died before exchanging vows in 2019. Now, Carla and Lisa are finally breaking barriers, with their relationship blossoming after weeks of chemistry building up.
The pair’s intimate relationship hit a turning point after Carla confessed her feelings to her nephew, Ryan Connor, who encouraged her to pursue what she truly wanted. After a night of drinking, Lisa stayed at Carla’s flat, where a simple “Don’t” from Carla led to a passionate kiss and a steamy night together. Fans went wild on social media, calling it “the moment” they had been waiting for.
However, the joy is short-lived as Lisa’s daughter, Betsey, discovers that her mother has been intimate with Carla, and she’s furious. Betsey accuses Lisa of disrespecting her late mother, Becky, by moving on with someone new on Becky’s birthday. Despite Lisa’s efforts to explain that they hadn’t slept together until the day after, Betsey remains angry, leaving Carla to try and ease the tension.
“I’m sure Becky would have wanted you to find happiness,” Carla says, but Betsey isn’t convinced. The heated argument leaves Lisa questioning whether she made the right choice in pursuing this relationship, adding even more drama to an already eventful wedding day.
