Davina McCall says she’s “no longer afraid of dying” after facing brain and breast cancer, while Jamie Theakston reveals his emotional struggle with the fear of death, despite overcoming laryngeal cancer. How their health battles have reshaped their views on life.

Davina McCall, 58, and Jamie Theakston, 55, discussed their changed perspectives on death in an emotional conversation on Heart Breakfast. Both stars have battled cancer in recent years—Davina with brain and breast cancer, and Jamie with laryngeal cancer—and the two have been left with a new outlook on life.

For Davina, the battle has brought a sense of liberation. “I am not afraid of dying anymore,” she admitted, explaining that it feels “liberating” not to fear death after everything she’s been through.
However, Jamie confessed he isn’t yet free from the fear of death, saying, “I wanted to see my kids grow up, see my grandchildren, and there were so many more things I wanted to do.”
The candid conversation came after both stars had faced significant health battles. Davina’s health crisis began with a rare brain tumour in 2024, followed by a breast cancer diagnosis in 2025. Jamie, on the other hand, had to undergo three surgeries for laryngeal cancer, successfully battling the disease.
Despite their health scares, Davina shared how these experiences led her to shift her priorities, even stepping back from full-time work after realizing the importance of stress reduction. “I’ve realized that all my big growth has come from change—and often, quite painful change,” she revealed, explaining her decision to limit her work schedule to a four-day week for better balance.
Jamie and Davina both admitted to experiencing “scanxiety” before medical check-ups, a term referring to the anxiety before cancer scans, highlighting the lingering emotional toll of their battles.
Their heart-to-heart on air showcased their strength and resilience, offering a poignant message to viewers about embracing life changes and finding peace despite life’s challenges.
