Eamonn Holmes’ son, Declan, has opened up about his father’s health scare following his recent stroke. The veteran TV presenter, 66, was rushed to the hospital last week, leading to his absence from GB News. Declan, 37, shared in a statement that the family was “shocked” by the sudden health issue but assured fans that Eamonn is doing okay, adding, “We’re taking it one step at a time.”
“We hugely appreciate all the messages. It means a lot to us,” Declan wrote. “What happened came as a real shock, but Dad is doing okay given the circumstances. For now, we’re focused on him and keeping things steady around him.”
The family is requesting privacy as they navigate Eamonn’s recovery, and Declan expressed gratitude for the support they’ve received during this challenging time.
Eamonn, who was set to return to GB News Breakfast this week, has had a turbulent health history. In addition to his recent stroke, he has undergone multiple surgeries, including a double hip replacement in 2016 and spinal surgery in 2022. He’s also had issues with slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis.
Following the stroke, a GB News spokesperson confirmed that Eamonn is responding well to treatment and is focusing on his recovery. “We wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back when he’s ready,” the statement read.
Previously, Eamonn has opened up about the difficulties of aging and his frustrations with the TV industry, which he believes is “ageist” and “doesn’t want to know him” now that he’s older and in a wheelchair.
Last month, there was a moment during a live broadcast when Eamonn appeared to doze off while interviewing Darren Jones MP. However, Eamonn later clarified, calling the claims “ridiculous,” stating that he was merely checking his mic pack.
As his family takes things one step at a time, we all wish Eamonn a smooth and speedy recovery.
