However, Tom remembers their first meeting a bit differently, teasing Elsa by saying, “She tells this amazing story that she always knew we were going to be together, but I don’t know if we can quite believe her on that.” He admitted, however, that he was actually single at the time and even asked Elsa to introduce him to her friends, which she didn’t do.
Years later, fate intervened when Tom moved back to New York to launch his eyewear and apparel brand, District Vision, setting up shop on the same street where Elsa lived. Eventually, Elsa made the first move and asked him out. “He was so different from the guys I’d been dating,” Elsa said. “He was not possessive. He wasn’t a rich guy who wanted arm candy. He was just a normal, cool guy — super happy, very funny. I was kind of obsessed with him.” Tom, on the other hand, admitted he was nervous to make a move and took six weeks before he did, nervously walking her to her door but never quite making a move. “It worked,” he laughed.
