On April 17th, a heartwarming gathering took place at the Hilton Anatole Dallas, where philanthropists, community leaders, and advocates united for the annual A Chance to Soar Luncheon, hosted by Jonathan’s Place. This unforgettable event, which draws attention to the challenges facing at-risk youth in North Texas, is a cornerstone in the fight to support children, teens, and young adults experiencing neglect, abuse, and homelessness.
Powerful Conversations Around Service and Leadership
The luncheon featured an inspiring conversation with former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush, moderated by Kevin Sullivan. They spoke passionately about leadership, service, and the crucial role communities play in supporting children in need.
“Today’s discussion was a powerful reminder of how much we can achieve when we unite to support vulnerable children,” said Allicia Frye, CEO of Jonathan’s Place. “We are truly grateful to President and Mrs. Bush for lending their voices to this cause, and to our incredible supporters who make this vital work possible.”
Honoring Heroes in the Community
This year’s event was led by Honorary Chair Kelcy Warren, with event co-chairs Paula and Bay Miltenberger, and April and John Willingham helping steer the program. The luncheon also saw Ashlee and Chris Kleinert honored with the Jonathan’s Place Humanitarian Award, a recognition of their long-standing philanthropic work and unwavering commitment to supporting children and families across North Texas.
Fighting for the Future of Children in Crisis
The funds raised during the luncheon go directly to Jonathan’s Place programs, which provide emergency shelter, housing, mental health care, and specialized services for survivors of child sex trafficking. One of the organization’s key programs offers residential support for children as young as newborns up to age 18, including one of the only programs in Dallas County that serves children under 5. When children arrive, the first priority is stabilization—ensuring immediate care for their physical, emotional, and medical needs.
“These children are from our own communities, our neighborhoods, our schools. They need us now more than ever,” Frye emphasized. “It’s not just about services; it’s about giving these kids a place where they can feel safe and cared for.”
Year-Round Impact for Local Children
Though the A Chance to Soar Luncheon serves as the organization’s major annual fundraiser, its impact is felt throughout the year. Jonathan’s Place is a lifeline for children in crisis, providing critical support on a daily basis to help them heal and thrive.
As the luncheon wrapped up, Frye left attendees with a poignant reminder: “Every child deserves stability, safety, and the opportunity to thrive. Our mission doesn’t end when the event is over—it continues every day.”
The A Chance to Soar Luncheon is more than just an event; it’s a testament to the power of community, and a reminder of the difference we can all make in the lives of children in need.
