Could The Great British Bake Off be preparing for another major TV move?
Fresh industry speculation suggests the beloved baking competition could eventually leave Channel 4 and return to ITV following a landmark £1.6 billion media deal that has sent shockwaves through British television.
ITV Deal Fuels Bake Off Rumours
ITV has agreed to sell its media and entertainment business to Sky owner Comcast, while ITV Studios is set to acquire Love Productions—the company behind The Great British Bake Off.
Although the show’s current broadcast agreement remains unchanged, the ownership shift has sparked widespread discussion about where Bake Off could eventually air once its existing contract expires.
Channel 4 signed a multi-year deal with Love Productions in 2025, meaning the hit series will continue on the broadcaster for now, with a new season scheduled to air later this year.
Industry Insiders Predict Another TV Battle
According to industry sources, the possibility of Bake Off changing channels again has quickly become one of the biggest talking points in television.
One insider claimed that bringing the programme to ITV would represent a huge victory for the broadcaster, while dealing a significant blow to Channel 4, where Bake Off remains one of its highest-rated shows.
The baking competition previously aired on the BBC from 2010 until its headline-making move to Channel 4 in 2017.
ITV Stays Tight-Lipped
Despite growing speculation, ITV executives have refused to discuss whether they plan to pursue the show when its current broadcasting agreement eventually comes to an end.
ITV Chief Executive Dame Carolyn McCall described the wider Comcast agreement as a “historic” milestone and said it would strengthen the broadcaster while keeping its biggest programmes free to watch.
Director of Television Kevin Lygo also reassured viewers that flagship ITV shows—including Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Love Island and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!—would remain central to the channel’s future.
Neither executive commented on Bake Off’s long-term future.
Channel 4 Insists Nothing Is Changing
Channel 4 has also moved quickly to calm fans’ concerns.
A spokesperson confirmed that its agreement for The Great British Bake Off is directly with Love Productions and is not affected by the wider ITV-Comcast transaction.
The broadcaster added that its current multi-year contract remains fully in place, meaning viewers can continue enjoying the programme on Channel 4 as planned.
For now, Bake Off fans can relax—but with ownership changing behind the scenes, speculation over the show’s long-term home is unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
