It was a rollercoaster of emotions, with the Radio 1 star admitting he was “shouted at in his ear” when Prince William made a surprise appearance, ready to hop onto his tandem. Greg joked: “I’ve never held on more tightly… Can you imagine if he fell off?”

As the challenge progressed, the total raised kept increasing, thanks to generous donations pouring in, including Coldplay’s enormous contribution of £100,000.

But it wasn’t just the celebrities who were there for Greg – the faces of children at the top of hills, waiting for him with excitement and support, made every painful pedal worth it. “This thing really captured people’s imagination,” Greg reflected, “It was a hard thing we did, but a fun thing.”

After hearing the audience chant his name, Greg was understandably overwhelmed, saying: “I’ve had too much praise for this now… Put it somewhere else!”

As the total skyrocketed, Greg humbly acknowledged the enormous impact of the fundraiser. But it wasn’t just about him – it was about raising money for causes such as homelessness, poverty, mental health, and many more.

Earlier in the day, Greg had already expressed his joy when he learned that his efforts had already raised an impressive £2.8 million, just as he neared the end of his challenge.

In an emotional outburst, Greg screamed, “2.8 million!! YESSS!” as the total continued to climb. His journey from £2.5 million to £2.8 million in just one hour was a testament to the power of the public’s generosity.

The funds raised will go to vital causes that Comic Relief supports, making Greg’s challenge not just an incredible feat of endurance, but a life-changing effort for those in need.
