Sir Rod Stewart, 81, faced a dramatic moment during his Utah gig on Friday night when he was forced to pause mid-song and use an oxygen tank after nearly fainting on stage.
The legendary singer, performing his classic hit Young Turks, appeared unsteady on his feet as fans watched in concern. Video footage shows Rod gasping for air and gripping a screen to stay upright.
An aide rushed on stage with an oxygen mask, while two staff members applied cold towels to his neck as he steadied himself. Ever the professional, Rod reassured the crowd:
“The show must go on. I was trying to dance and nearly passed out!”
He even made light of the situation, asking fans if he could perform his next song seated, before finishing the set in a chair.
This incident comes after a challenging few weeks for the rock star. Earlier in June, Rod had to cancel multiple Las Vegas shows at Caesars Palace due to medical advice, following an acute upper respiratory infection that caused laryngitis.
In a statement on Instagram at the time, the singer explained:
“Rod Stewart very regretfully has had to cancel his show tonight in Chula Vista, California. He travelled to the venue and made every effort to perform, but on the advice of his doctor, and following a diagnosis of an acute upper respiratory infection, he is unable to take the stage this evening.”
Despite the scare, Stewart’s fans have praised his resilience, with many taking to social media to share their support and well wishes for the music legend’s recovery.
