Savannah Guthrie has shared a reassuring health update after undergoing vocal cord surgery, giving fans a glimpse into her recovery following a procedure that temporarily forced her away from the Today show. 
The 54-year-old co-anchor took to Instagram to let followers know that the operation was successful. Alongside a photo of herself holding a whiteboard, Guthrie wrote a simple but heartfelt message: “All good! Thanks for prayers and love!” She added the caption, “See you soon!”, confirming that she is steadily recovering.
Guthrie first revealed on December 19 that she would be stepping away from Today for several weeks to undergo surgery after doctors discovered vocal nodules and a polyp on her vocal cords. The growths needed to be removed, and the recovery process required complete vocal rest.
Speaking to viewers before her leave began, Guthrie explained that many people had noticed changes in her voice.
“Some of you have noticed that my voice has been very scratchy and started to crack a little bit,” she said. “Well, I have found out what it is. I have vocal nodules and I also have a polyp. It’s not a big, big deal, but I am going to have to have surgery in the new year and be off for a couple of weeks, so this is my last day for a little while.”
She joked that some viewers may have assumed she was battling “the world’s longest head cold,” but admitted she was actually relieved to finally have an explanation after dealing with the issue for years. 
“I’m really excited to finally have some answers,” Guthrie shared, adding that the vocal problems had been ongoing “for years.”
One of the biggest challenges after surgery has been maintaining complete silence while her vocal cords heal. Guthrie humorously remarked that the mandatory quiet time would probably feel like “Christmas coming early” for her family.
Her Today colleague Sheinelle Jones, who previously underwent the same procedure, offered encouragement and reminded Guthrie to embrace the recovery period.
“The silver lining is you have permission to be still,” Jones said. “The house gets quiet, and the kids are going to want to help you out.”
Jones also presented Guthrie with a whiteboard wrapped in a festive bow so she could continue communicating without speaking during recovery.
Keeping the mood light, Jones joked that perhaps Guthrie would return with an even better voice.
“A lot of the greats have done it. Maybe you’ll come out singing like Celine Dion,” she teased.
Laughing, Guthrie responded that she once loved singing but gradually lost that ability as her voice problems worsened.
“Well, you know, it’s really funny. I used to sing. Then I couldn’t sing anymore and then I couldn’t speak anymore. So who knows, guys—the tour is happening in 2026.”
With surgery now behind her and recovery progressing well, Guthrie’s latest update has reassured viewers that she is on the road back and looking forward to returning to the Today desk in the near future.
