Carol McGiffin has openly admitted she regrets marrying her first husband, Chris Evans, revealing that for much of their marriage, she didn’t like him. The Loose Women star, 66, was married to the DJ from 1991 to 1998, but in a candid new interview, she confessed that she doesn’t really know why they got married in the first place.

Carol, who has previously criticized Chris for being “manipulative,” said their relationship was more about being “swept along” rather than a true connection. She has also claimed that Chris was “nothing without her,” and that the marriage was a mistake from the start.

In the revealing interview, she shared her suspicions that Chris may have been unfaithful, but she chose not to confront him. “I already knew I didn’t want to be married to him anymore,” Carol explained. “I don’t know why we got married. It was a big mistake.”

She reflected on the breakdown of their relationship, admitting, “For quite a lot of the time, I didn’t like him.” While acknowledging the pain of infidelity, she remarked, “People get past being cheated on,” suggesting that the emotional toll of the relationship took precedence over any outside issues.

Their marriage ended after two years, but their divorce wasn’t finalized until 1998. Carol previously described their nuptials as a bad idea, telling Loose Women in 2019, “I was just swept along. I convinced myself I couldn’t live without him.” She also said that Chris had been “very manipulative” during their marriage.

Carol’s blunt remarks about her ex-husband aren’t new. In 2010, she famously referred to Chris as the “ginger tsunami” and admitted that during their time together, she became a “crazy, dependent, idiotic human being” who bore no resemblance to the person she was before meeting him. She likened their relationship to an addiction, comparing Chris to a “Class A drug.”

Their constant arguments, like the one over a simple can of deodorant, were also a point of contention in their marriage. “We had one about a can of deodorant—the second one he’d bought in eight months. He seemed to think he was some sort of hero for buying it,” Carol recalled. “I suggested he buy some toothpaste, but he went mad and threw the can across the room. It smashed four cassette cases. Pathetic.”

Despite the painful past, Carol didn’t let it stop her from finding love again. In 2018, she secretly married her current husband, Mark Cassidy, in Thailand, and she’s been happily married ever since.

As for Chris, he moved on and married actress Billie Piper in a whirlwind romance, though they split in 2004. Chris later married golfer Natasha Shishmanian in 2007, and the couple now has four children together. Chris is also a grandfather to his daughter Jade’s son, Teddy.

Carol’s candid reflection on her marriage to Chris Evans sheds light on her personal journey, from the heartache to the strength she’s found in moving forward.
