Maura Higgins has made a startling confession about her love life, revealing she has been celibate for an entire year following a string of painful romances — and taking a thinly veiled swipe at what she describes as a pattern of “cheating” ex-partners.
The Traitors US star, 35, whose most recent public relationship was with TOWIE favourite Pete Wicks, opened up about her decision to step back from dating altogether, admitting her trust in men has been severely shaken.
Speaking candidly amid her increasingly hectic work schedule, Maura said:
“I’ve already got severe trust issues. I’ve been cheated on by the majority of my exes — that’s the reason I’ve been celibate for a whole year.”
Her comments come after a turbulent breakup from Pete Wicks last year, when Maura publicly suggested he had been unfaithful after discovering messages to other women on his phone. At the time, sources close to Pete strongly denied the claims, insisting he had never cheated and was deeply hurt by the accusations.
Despite that, Maura has remained unapologetically open about the emotional toll her past relationships have taken.
“I don’t trust men anyway,” she added bluntly.
Reflecting on her recent appearance on The Traitors US, Maura hinted that years of disappointing relationships have hardened her emotional responses.
“If I wasn’t used to that kind of guy, I reckon I would’ve been crying, storming out, never speaking to him again,” she said, referencing losing to fellow contestant Rob Rausch in an interview with Elite Daily.
Last month, Maura shocked fans by revealing she routinely checks a man’s phone just one week into dating — a habit she openly admits stems from her lack of trust.
“I’ve turned into a bit of an investigator,” she confessed, saying years of “men doing me dirty” have changed her approach to romance.
In a separate interview with Glamour Magazine, Maura laid out her red, green and beige flags when it comes to relationships — and didn’t hold back.
“My biggest red flag is definitely my trust issues,” she said.
“If I’m dating you and it’s only a week in, I’ve already gone through your phone. It’s not okay… but I’m going to do it again.”
Maura’s dating history has long played out in the public eye. She famously coupled up with Curtis Pritchard on Love Island, before later dating fellow islander Chris Taylor. She then enjoyed a brief romance with former Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice, which ended after four months.
In 2022, she was spotted sharing a kiss with Joey Essex at the National Television Awards, though both later denied being romantically involved.
More recently, Maura split from stuntman Bobby Holland Hanton in March 2024 after ten months together, before sparking controversy again when she was seen sharing a “drunken kiss” with McFly’s Danny Jones at a BRIT Awards afterparty — despite his long-standing marriage.
Now, speculation is swirling once again after fans noticed apparent chemistry between Maura and her Traitors US co-star Rob Rausch, 27. Social media has been buzzing with TikTok clips and theories, prompting Maura to finally address the rumours.
Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she teased:
“I’ve seen the videos… you’ll have to watch the show to see if that happened.”
For now, Maura appears focused on protecting her peace — even if that means staying single. As she makes clear, trust, once broken too many times, is not easily rebuilt.
