James Martin, the famous TV chef, recently revealed he underwent a fresh round of surgery at the end of 2025, two years after sharing his facial cancer diagnosis. The beloved chef, best known for his role on James Martin’s Saturday Morning, had previously opened up about his battle with facial cancer back in 2023, a period when he was under intense scrutiny due to his behavior on set.
He shared that he was first diagnosed with facial cancer in 2018 and had gone through multiple surgeries since then. After taking some time away from the show, James returned to the spotlight, stating in interviews that he is “fit as a fiddle” despite the health challenges he faced.

However, in November 2025, James shocked fans again by revealing he had recently undergone a different kind of surgery—laser eye surgery to improve his vision. The operation, known as full refractive lens surgery, involved replacing his natural lenses with new ones. The outcome, James shared, has been nothing short of remarkable: “Oh my God, I can see round corners now, it’s scary!”
Speaking on Good Housekeeping’s My Life In A Biscuit Tin podcast, James talked about the profound impact of his new vision on both his work and personal life. “People are now scared at work because I can see stuff a mile off. I can see veins on a tree, I can now read without glasses, it’s amazing,” he admitted.
James further explained how his newfound ability to focus on minute details is crucial to his work in the culinary world. “Detail is everything in our industry,” he said, emphasizing how this laser-sharp vision has added a new layer of precision to his job. “I think you can still have that attention to detail when you go up into TV production. It still matters to people watching. It matters that you care.”
The chef’s new sight isn’t just changing the way he works—it’s also having a lasting effect on how he approaches life. James’ journey through health challenges has only strengthened his resolve to keep improving every day, both professionally and personally.
As he continues to recover and adjust to his sharper vision, James is grateful for the support of his family and colleagues, and he’s looking forward to embracing each new day with renewed clarity.
