Jesy Nelson is opening up about her twins, Ocean and Story, and the unbreakable bond they share—one that is particularly moving as they continue to fight their battle with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1.
In a touching post on Sunday, Jesy shared an adorable clip of her 9-month-old twins holding hands as they drift off to sleep. “Right after their feed, they always go to sleep but they have to hold each other’s hands to sleep,” Jesy wrote alongside the heartwarming video. She added, “My whole heart and soul,” encapsulating the deep love she feels for her precious girls as they face unimaginable challenges.
In January, Jesy made a heartbreaking revelation—her twins were diagnosed with SMA, a rare and devastating condition that affects muscle strength and movement. Since then, Jesy has become a fierce advocate, passionately campaigning for the NHS to introduce newborn screening for SMA1 to prevent other families from facing the same struggles.
“Seeing my girls not being able to walk due to their late diagnosis has been tough,” Jesy shared in a recent update. Despite the pain, she remains hopeful as she fights for change. In the face of adversity, she’s determined to make a difference by ensuring that every baby born in the UK has access to SMA screening.

Jesy revealed in January her now nine-month-old twins, Ocean and Story, had been diagnosed with SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) Type 1
Jesy celebrated a major victory earlier this month as the NHS announced plans to begin testing for SMA at birth in October 2026, a direct result of her tireless campaigning. “It’s bittersweet,” she admitted. “I’m proud of how far we’ve come, but it’s still a postcode lottery for many families.”
The NHS will test an estimated 400,000 babies across England, but Jesy is quick to remind her followers that the battle is not over. “All babies’ lives matter,” she said. “I’m going to keep pushing until this is available everywhere.”

In her new post she captured them holding hands and penned: ‘Right after their feed they always go to sleep but they have to hold each others hands to sleep’

She also shared another clip to her Instagram grid in their matching yellow outfits as she wrote in the caption: ‘My whole heart and soul’
Her fight for SMA testing has been a rollercoaster, but she’s proud to have reached such an important milestone in her campaign. “This is a huge moment for the SMA community,” Jesy said, beaming with pride as she shared the news. “We’re getting closer to making SMA testing a reality for all babies.”
In addition to the progress with the SMA campaign, Jesy also had a tough moment when her car, containing vital hospital equipment for her daughters, was stolen from her driveway. With a £10,000 reward on offer, she’s reaching out to fans for help in recovering the car and her girls’ necessary supplies.
Despite these setbacks, Jesy’s resolve remains stronger than ever. “Thank you for all your support,” she shared with her followers. “We’re making a difference together.”
Stay tuned for more updates on Jesy’s journey and her fight for SMA awareness, as this dedicated mom continues to change the lives of families across the UK.
