Holmes, who had been on annual leave, was rushed to A&E last Tuesday. His girlfriend, Katie Alexander, 44, is reportedly by his side, offering support as he focuses on his recovery.

A spokesperson from GB News commented, “Eamonn was taken ill last week, and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has requested privacy during this time while he focuses on getting better. His colleagues and everyone at GB News are wishing him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People’s Channel when he’s ready.”

Holmes, a father of four, has been absent from the breakfast show since March 11, when viewers were shocked to see him appear to doze off on air, playing with his microphone and mobile phone in what seemed like a distracted daze. The awkward moment caught the attention of both his colleagues and the audience.

Adding to concerns, last May, Holmes fell off his chair during a live interview with Charlie Rowley, a former special adviser to Michael Gove.

The 66-year-old’s colleagues have since raised doubts about whether he will be well enough to return to his presenting duties after the stroke. “Eamonn is really struggling,” one colleague shared. “He’s always been a bit of a challenge to work with, but now, with his health issues, it’s becoming even harder. The hours are tough, and with his current state, early mornings are incredibly draining for him.”

Another source revealed, “He needs the money, but is he really up to working right now? Maybe not.”

Holmes has faced ongoing health problems for several years, including a double hip replacement in 2016, along with three slipped discs, a dislocated pelvis, and major spinal surgery in 2022. Last year, he underwent another spinal surgery, adding to his growing list of health challenges.

The veteran broadcaster, who previously co-hosted ITV’s This Morning with his ex-wife Ruth Langsford, is also in the middle of a bitter divorce battle, with reports suggesting the couple is in the process of selling their £2.4 million home in Weybridge, Surrey.

Despite all these personal and health struggles, Holmes’ colleagues and fans are eagerly awaiting his return to the screen. However, the question remains: will he be able to make a full recovery and return to work, or has his time at GB News come to an end?
