Kate and Liam have reportedly known one another for nearly two decades through their work in broadcasting and journalism. Liam, a respected economist and political commentator, was also acquainted with Kate’s late husband, Derek Draper.
Derek passed away in January 2024 at the age of 56 after suffering a cardiac arrest following years of serious health complications caused by Covid-19.
Friends close to Kate have previously said she continues to cherish Derek’s memory while gradually allowing herself to find happiness again.

Writing in his Spectator column, he joked that he was astonished to find himself making entertainment headlines.
“As a sandwich-board man of the business pages, I’m flabbergasted to be in the showbiz sections,” he wrote.
He added that although they come from different areas of the media, they share a surprising amount in common.
“Kate Garraway and I are from different parts of the media but have much in common—not least a shared sense of humour. Though it’s early days, there’s a definite spark between us.”
Referring to a recent charity cycling event they attended together, Liam humorously added:
“But can she ride a tandem?”

Speaking previously on TalkTV, Liam explained that their relationship developed naturally after both experienced profound personal loss.
“It’s early days, we’ll see what happens,” he said.
“I’ve known her for a long time. I knew Derek. In recent years, for different reasons, we have both become single, against our wishes. Over the last few months, Kate and I have become good friends.”
Romance rumours first emerged earlier this year when the pair were seen together in Liam’s hometown of Saffron Walden, Essex, where they reportedly enjoyed an evening at The Railway Arms pub while Liam performed with his band.
They later attracted further attention when Kate was spotted supporting Liam during the Duchenne Dash, a charity cycling event from London to Paris, with onlookers noting the pair laughing, chatting and appearing affectionate throughout the day.
