Kelly Ripa Breaks Down in Tears Paying Tribute to Husband Mark Consuelos’ Father After His Death: ‘He Was the Greatest Person’

Kelly Ripa couldn’t hold back her tears as she paid an emotional tribute to Mark Consuelos’ late father, Saul, during the April 6 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Mark announced that his father passed away after a prolonged illness, with Saul’s death occurring two weeks earlier. As the couple reflected on their memories, Kelly shared her grief, telling Mark, “You’ve been blessed more because you knew him your whole life. I only got to know my father-in-law for 31 years, but they were the best 31 years of my life. I will miss him every day for the rest of my life.”

Choking up, Kelly continued, “He was the greatest person I’ve ever known, and he really is symbolic of everything you are.”

Mark, who had a close bond with his father, also praised Saul for being a strong influence in his life. “I do everything the way he did it,” Mark said. “If he was fixing something in the house, he’d make me watch, and now I do the same.”

Mark further honored his father’s legacy, saying, “He was such a fantastic man. Everything good I have, I got from him.”

The 55-year-old father of three also shared the remarkable story of his father’s life. Born in Mexico, Saul immigrated to the U.S. in his teens and went on to serve in the military for 30 years, earning his Master’s degree while raising his children. Mark fondly described him as “the prime example of what this country promises to people.”

As the family continues to mourn, Mark and Kelly also discussed Saul’s important role in their children’s lives. Kelly recalled how Saul often stepped in as a father figure when Mark was away, joking that at one point, parents at the kids’ school thought Saul was her husband.

Despite the grief, Kelly found comfort in knowing their children were lucky to have known their grandparents. “This is their first loss,” she said, noting how fortunate her kids were to grow up with their grandparents.
