Kelly Ripa Calls Out Husband Mark Consuelos’ Off-Air Behavior — And What She Revealed Left Fans Talking

Kelly Ripa has once again given viewers a glimpse into her real-life marriage with husband Mark Consuelos — and this time, a lighthearted conversation on LIVE with Kelly & Mark turned into a playful public call-out that caught plenty of attention. During the June 16 episode of the daytime show, the couple discussed the modern dating term “cookie jarring,” a phrase used to describe someone who keeps multiple romantic options available while pursuing another person more seriously.

Explaining the trend, Mark told viewers that one of the biggest warning signs is delayed communication and “extended response times.”

That comment immediately gave Kelly an opening.

“Are you cookie jarring me?” she jokingly asked her husband, prompting laughter in the studio.

Although Mark pointed out that the couple obviously live together, Kelly admitted she sometimes sends him text messages while standing right behind him — just to see whether he notices them. According to Kelly, the results are often disappointing.

“That’s not called cookie jarring, that’s called ignoring,” Mark replied.

Not missing a beat, Kelly fired back: “I think that’s gaslight cookie jarring.”

Mark attempted to defend himself, insisting that his wife generally knows exactly where he is and what he’s doing. But Kelly wasn’t finished.photo of kelly ripa leaning into mark consuelos and both smiling

She went on to recall a recent moment when Mark appeared to be deeply focused on his phone. According to him, he was checking important updates about Campobasso FC, the Italian football club he co-owns.

Kelly, however, had a different theory.

She joked that he was actually scrolling through Instagram instead.

The playful exchange quickly became another example of the candid chemistry that has made the couple popular with viewers since Mark officially joined LIVE in 2023.Kelly Ripa in white blouse in studio with Mark in gray shirt

The conversation comes as Kelly recently celebrated a major milestone — 25 years as a host of the long-running daytime program.

Kelly first joined the show in 2001, replacing Kathie Lee Gifford as Regis Philbin’s co-host. Following Regis’ departure in 2011, she went on to work alongside Michael Strahan from 2012 to 2016 and later Ryan Seacrest from 2017 until 2023.

Mark stepped into the role after Ryan’s departure, which was reportedly influenced by the challenges of commuting between Los Angeles and New York while managing several other professional commitments.

Interestingly, Kelly has previously revealed that convincing Mark to take the job was far from easy.

Speaking on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, she explained that her husband initially rejected the idea altogether.

“It was really about convincing Mark,” Kelly said. “Because initially when they came to Mark, he flat out refused.”

Kelly admitted she also had reservations at first.

“I also thought that was kind of a bad idea,” she explained. “A husband and wife hosting a morning show is different from a husband and wife acting together or producing something together.”

But after more than three decades together, the pair have discovered that their unfiltered dynamic is exactly what audiences enjoy.

“We have been together for 31 years and we are not afraid to express ourselves publicly,” Kelly said. “There is no artifice.”

She added: “We’re not worried about protecting each other’s feelings. We both just say what is on our minds, and I guess people find that relatable.”

The couple, who share three children — Michael, Lola and Joaquin — continue to bring their real-life relationship to television every morning, with moments like this latest exchange proving that their honest banter remains one of the show’s biggest attractions.
