Lauren Silverman has spoken candidly about one of the most turbulent and painful chapters of her life — revealing how discovering she was pregnant with son Eric during her affair with music mogul Simon Cowell marked what she describes as “the end of my marriage.”
Appearing on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum podcast, the 48-year-old reflected on the emotional storm that followed her relationship breakdown with then-husband Andrew Silverman, after her connection with Cowell became public and deeply scrutinised by the media.
When asked how she felt finding out she was expecting Eric, Lauren didn’t hold back.

Lauren and Simon’s affair was rumoured to have started when he was on holiday with her and her husband of ten years, Andrew Silverman, 49, in Barbados

Lauren said: ‘It was one of the hardest times of my life and it was just, the way that people would look at me and you know, I was on the cover of every magazine and there were news stories about it because… Simon being Simon… and it was just awful’
“There are so many emotions that came with that,” she said. “It was like the end of my marriage. It was one of the hardest times of my life.”
She went on to describe the intense public scrutiny that followed, saying she suddenly found herself at the centre of global headlines and tabloid front pages.
“The way people looked at me… I was on the cover of every magazine. There were stories everywhere. It was awful,” she admitted, adding that the experience left her emotionally overwhelmed and isolated.
Lauren also reflected on how that period eventually became a turning point in her personal growth, revealing that it was only years later she was able to fully process what she had been through.
“It was like a fog lifted,” she said. “That was when I really started to look inward and accept my feelings. And with that came a sense of freedom.”

In 2013, Simon said in an interview: ‘I let down a friend and I feel bad about that. But the good thing is I’m having a baby and never thought I would’

Simon, 66, often says that his son, Eric, 12, completely changed his life and saved him from being an overworked workaholic
Her relationship with Simon Cowell reportedly began while she was still married to Andrew Silverman, with whom she shares her eldest son Adam. The situation quickly became one of the most widely discussed celebrity scandals of the time after Lauren became pregnant with Eric.
Andrew later filed for divorce citing adultery, while Lauren and Cowell went on to build a life together. The pair are now engaged and co-parent their son Eric, who is 12.
Simon Cowell has previously acknowledged the situation publicly, admitting he “let down a friend” but describing fatherhood as life-changing. He has often spoken about Eric as the moment everything shifted for him, saying becoming a father “completely changed my life.”
Lauren also revealed that Simon’s emotional reaction to Eric’s birth left a lasting impression on her, describing it as a moment that showed a very different, softer side of the famously controlled music executive.
“It was emotional,” she recalled. “I remember thinking, your life is about to change forever and you don’t even know it yet.”
Now focused on family life, Lauren says she has become increasingly protective of her son, revealing that she and Simon have chosen to keep Eric away from social media entirely in an effort to safeguard his childhood.
She has also recently supported wider calls for stronger online protections for children, aligning with new government proposals aimed at tightening digital safety laws for minors.
Despite the public scrutiny that once defined her name, Lauren says she spent years choosing privacy to protect her children — and only now feels able to speak more openly about her past.
“For a long time, I stayed quiet,” she said. “It was intentional. I wanted to protect my children. That was always the priority.”
