After 37 years since their iconic roles in Birds of a Feather, Lesley Joseph and Linda Robson have reunited on screen, but this time it’s for something far more emotional—a deeply moving tribute to their dear friend, Pauline Quirke. The acting duo, who captivated the nation as Sharon and Tracey, now star together again in the Channel 5 cosy crime drama The Good Ship Murder, but their reunion comes with a bittersweet twist.

In a departure from their comedic roots, Lesley and Linda guest star in an episode of the crime drama as widows, Tilly and Elsa, embarking on a cruise that turns sinister. After visiting a local shrine in Cape Verde, the characters find themselves caught up in a murder investigation when Tilly (played by Lesley) is found dead. Detectives Jack Grayling (Shayne Ward) and Kate Woods (Catherine Tyldesley) uncover secrets and clues, unraveling a mystery at sea.
But for fans of Birds of a Feather, this reunion is not just about the drama on-screen. The real story behind the emotional reunion is a tribute to Pauline Quirke, who is tragically unable to join her co-stars due to her ongoing battle with dementia. The trio became legends in British comedy, and it’s clear from the heartfelt words of Lesley and Linda that Pauline’s absence leaves a void in their lives.

Lesley Joseph, speaking on the emotional reunion, shared, “Pauline is not well, and I’m going to visit her next week. She’s always been such an important part of our lives, and this reunion just reminds us of how much we miss her.”
Linda Robson, who has known Pauline since childhood, also spoke about the deep bond they share, both on and off-screen. “We’ve spent so many years together, and I can’t even imagine doing something like this without Pauline. She’s always been the heart of Birds of a Feather, and we’re here doing this for her.”
Shayne Ward, who also stars in The Good Ship Murder, praised the duo’s performance, calling them “absolute comedic geniuses” and expressing his admiration for their chemistry. “We’re so blessed to have Lesley and Linda, and we can’t forget Pauline. This show is dedicated to all three of them.”
Pauline’s journey with dementia, diagnosed in 2021, has been a private and painful one for her family, and updates about her condition have been rare. Pauline’s husband, Steve Sheen, and son Charlie have spoken about her condition, expressing that she remains cheerful and aware of her family. “She’s still funny, she’s talking, she’s happy,” Steve said, though they remain unsure of her condition’s progression.
This reunion has not only brought Birds of a Feather fans together but also serves as a reminder of the incredible impact Pauline, Lesley, and Linda had on British television. As the cast continues their journey in The Good Ship Murder, their shared bond and love for Pauline remain a driving force behind their performances.
The Good Ship Murder airs every Tuesday at 9pm, with all three seasons available on catch-up via the 5 catch-up service.
