Friday’s episode of ITV’s Loose Women turned unexpectedly fiery as veteran panellists Gloria Hunniford and Kaye Adams came head-to-head during a heated discussion about Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The debate escalated quickly, leaving viewers glued to the screen as the normally composed hosts clashed over politics, perspectives, and public mood.
The show opened with the panel—Gloria, 86, Kaye, 63, along with Judi Love, 45, and Jane Moore, 63—discussing whether the nation was ready for “Burnham’s Britain” and reflecting on the state of political affairs. What began as a civil debate rapidly turned into a war of words.
“I want to beat my head against a brick wall,” Kaye exclaimed. “All this country wants is a bit of stability. People want their lives to be better—that’s what you want, to be better.”
Gloria fired back without missing a beat: “People want change. They do. They do.”
The tension ratcheted up when Kaye interrupted: “No, Gloria, that’s an interesting thing. What is change? Define change for me.” Sensing her point was being cut off, Gloria persisted: “Just let me finish my bit…”
The verbal sparring continued with Kaye emphasizing the democratic process: “We voted in a Labour government. If the people decide they don’t want a Labour government, then they vote them out.” Gloria countered sharply: “But what you’re skipping is the mood of the people.” Kaye pushed back: “But you can’t talk about the mood of the people, Gloria, because different people have different…”
Even attempts to lighten the mood failed to fully break the tension. Judi joked, “This feels like parliament to me right there!” while Gloria and Kaye continued to go toe-to-toe, culminating in Gloria pleading: “Kaye, just give me one second for goodness sake to speak. I sound like a politician!”
Beyond the studio drama, Kaye Adams’ career history was briefly referenced. She had been removed from her £155K-a-year BBC Radio Scotland show in October following complaints, some upheld and others dismissed. Despite past controversies, she remains a popular panellist on Loose Women, with fellow stars Olivia Attwood, Stacey Solomon, Nadia Sawalha, Katie Piper, Jane Moore, Sunetra Sarker, and Carol Vorderman publicly supporting her.
Kaye’s former talent agent Melanie, 49, defended her publicly on X: “Many ‘testing times’ went on behind the scenes, sometimes around her, but she never once acted like that. I can’t imagine Kaye throwing a pen! Sounds ridiculous, she’s just not that kind of person. She’s very calm even under fire.”
In a statement addressing lingering allegations from her BBC tenure, Kaye categorically denied wrongdoing: “I categorically deny using a misogynistic slur 14 years ago and I am horrified at its invention more than a decade later. It is absolutely not a word I would have used. As for berating an intern, this is simply untrue… Regarding the allegation that I threw a pencil while alone in an empty studio, words fail me. I am heartbroken that 15 years of hard work and dedication to BBC Scotland is being reduced to this.”
Despite the controversy, Kaye continues to shine on Loose Women, proving resilience and maintaining her place in British daytime television. The fiery exchange with Gloria Hunniford serves as a reminder that even on daytime talk shows, passion, politics, and personality can create unmissable drama.
