Kelly Ripa has never been afraid to push boundaries on Live with Kelly and Mark — but her latest on-air revelation left viewers gasping. 
The 54-year-old talk show host sparked controversy after boldly bringing up the subject of divorce live on television, catching both her co-host — and real-life husband of nearly 30 years — Mark Consuelos, 53, completely by surprise.
The moment began innocently enough, when Kelly shared that she had been reading an article about the rise of so-called “gray divorce.” The term, coined in 2004 by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), refers to the increasing number of couples over 50 choosing to end their marriages.
“I recently came across this fascinating magazine article about the rise of what’s being called ‘gray divorce,’” Kelly explained to viewers. “I brought it up to Mark, and he immediately got defensive,” she teased, while her husband smiled nervously beside her.
Mark recalled how Kelly rushed home with the story. “You came home from the trip, and you were like, ‘I read this amazing article!’” he laughed — though his surprise was evident.
Kelly, never missing the chance to add her trademark humor, then quipped:
“The way the article was written almost made me want to get a gray divorce too!”
Her joke divided audiences. While some laughed, others weren’t amused. Social media quickly exploded with reactions — some accusing Kelly of being insensitive, others praising her refreshing honesty.

Their love story dates back to 1994, when they met on the set of All My Children. Sparks flew instantly, and by May 1, 1996, they eloped in Las Vegas — a whirlwind romance that stunned fans. Nearly 30 years later, they remain together, raising three children: Michael, 26, Lola, 22, and Joaquin, 20.
Mark recently opened up about the secrets of their marriage in an interview with Mr Feelgood magazine, describing Kelly as both his partner and his anchor.
“Find someone you love talking to about the future — about your dreams,” he said. “We did that when we were 24, and we still do it now. These days, we talk about grandchildren. We want to be the magnets, the grandparents the kids want to come to.”
He admitted his flaws but praised Kelly’s patience: “Even though I know I’m highly annoying, she’s extremely patient. That’s a huge factor in our relationship.”
Mark added:
“The word allegiance probably isn’t strong enough. But I know she has my back, and I hope she knows I have hers.”
