Mark Consuelos shared heartbreaking news on April 6, 2026, revealing the passing of his father, Saul Consuelos, at the age of 87. The Live with Kelly and Mark co-host opened up about the loss, calling his father a “brilliant” and “fascinating man” whose legacy will forever live on.
Saul Consuelos passed away peacefully on March 23, following a long battle with illness. Mark’s wife, Kelly Ripa, paid tribute to her father-in-law, calling him “the greatest person I’ve ever known.” She spoke emotionally, remembering Saul’s role in their family and how much he will be missed by her, Mark, and their children. “I will miss him every day for the rest of my life,” Kelly said.
Saul’s impact went beyond his family. An immigrant from Mexico, he served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years and was a constant presence in his grandchildren’s lives. He became the embodiment of what America promises, with Mark reflecting on his father’s journey, education, and commitment to his country. “He loved his country so much. If you want to put a face to an immigrant, he would be the prime example,” Mark shared. :max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(878x0:880x2):format(webp)/mark-consuelos-3-e593faa6440f480086c9892c29eb2ce4.jpg)
In an emotional moment, Mark talked about the lessons he learned from his father, recalling how Saul’s hands-on approach to teaching shaped his life. “If you asked him what time it was, he would tell you how to build a watch,” Mark recalled fondly. “I learned so much just by watching him.”
Mark and Kelly’s three children — Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 23 — are struggling with the loss, with Kelly sharing that it is the first death they’ve experienced. “They got to grow up with grandparents. You got to have deep, meaningful conversations with them,” she said, highlighting the precious bond Saul had with his grandchildren. :max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/kelly-ripa-mark-consuelos-100626-26f461b049d1412ca79505d83a64ca8e.jpg)
Kelly also reflected on how Saul was always there for the family, often stepping in to help when Mark was away for work. “He was very involved,” Kelly said, recalling moments when people mistook Saul for her husband.
As Mark continues to grieve, he finds solace in his Broadway play Fallen Angels. Despite the emotional turmoil, he expressed how the show has been a “welcomed distraction” during this difficult time. “I know he’s there watching, and he’s able to be part of that,” he said.
The Consuelos family is now focused on supporting Mark’s mother, Camilla Consuelos, during this tough time. Mark even joked about convincing her to move to New York, with Kelly playfully suggesting a “Cooking with Camilla” segment.
