Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will be forced to sit out the first six games of the 2025 NFL season — and without pay — after the league handed down its long-awaited punishment for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Rice, a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and a key member of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII championship team, had been under intense scrutiny following his involvement in a hit-and-run crash in Dallas, Texas, back in March 2024.
For months, the league and Rice’s representatives went back and forth over the severity of the punishment. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the league initially pushed for a double-digit game suspension — one that would have sidelined the rising star for more than half the season. However, the NFL Players Association, along with Rice’s legal team, fought for a shorter penalty, citing a lack of historical precedent for such a lengthy ban.
The two sides finally reached a settlement: six games. This agreement ends months of uncertainty and officially rules Rice out until Week 7, when the Chiefs are set to face their divisional rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders.
The suspension stems from the March 2024 accident in Dallas, where Rice and four other men abandoned a Lamborghini Urus and a Chevrolet Corvette — both involved in a high-speed crash — without checking on the victims in the other vehicles. Two individuals were hospitalized, and two others suffered minor injuries.
In July, Rice pleaded guilty to two felony charges tied to the incident. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation, a sentence that cast a shadow over what was supposed to be a breakout year for the young receiver.
As the Chiefs prepare for the season opener, fans are left stunned — and wondering how the team will adjust without one of its most explosive playmakers for the first six games.
