Viewers of For Dogs’ Sake were left openly emotional this week after Pete Wicks shared a deeply moving update on his foster dog, Crumble — a once-overlooked rescue whose journey has struck a powerful chord with audiences.
Crumble’s heartbreaking story unfolded in the latest episode of the U&W series For Dogs’ Sake, fronted by devoted dog-lover Pete. The staffy–boxer cross had spent three long years in a Dogs Trust kennel, repeatedly passed over by potential adopters.
Anxious and reactive, Crumble was often labelled “barky” — a reputation that saw families walk straight past her. When Pete first met her, she was wearing a muzzle and being cared for several nights a week by a Dogs Trust adoption adviser, simply to give her some relief from kennel life.
As cameras followed her progress, viewers watched Pete roll up his sleeves alongside Dogs Trust staff, helping train the so-called “misunderstood” dog to remain calm around others while out walking. It wasn’t long before the bond between them became impossible to ignore.
Already a dog owner himself, Pete later made the decision to foster Crumble temporarily — but not before completing the full fostering application process through Dogs Trust.
On the show, Pete admitted his feelings had taken him by surprise.
“I have such a soft spot for that dog,” he said. “From when I first met her, when she was really unsure, to now — you can see how much love and affection she’s got. I love her. I really do love her. Like, goosebumps.”
Fighting back tears, he added: “It makes me emotional to think how long she’s been here. Not one person or one family has come and said, ‘I want to take a chance on that dog.’ And that’s heartbreaking.”
Viewers then saw Crumble settle into Pete’s luxury apartment, while his own dogs stayed with his mum to help the transition. For a brief moment, it looked like Crumble had finally found peace.
But as her foster stay drew to a close, Pete was forced to confront a painful reality.
“I’ve got dogs of my own and Crumble’s stay with me can’t be forever,” he reflected. “I really hope someone just comes and falls in love with her like I did. She hasn’t had her happy ending… yet.”
The uncertainty left fans bracing themselves — until a crucial update arrived.
Following the episode, the official Pete Wicks: For Dogs’ Sake Instagram page shared a clip of Crumble with the caption: “Here she is, everyone’s favourite girl, Crumble.”
Pete tagged Crumble’s new owner, who finally revealed the ending viewers had been desperately hoping for.
“Crumble is stretched out in front of the fire… dreaming about squirrels no doubt,” the owner wrote. “She does like to chase them — she literally climbs trees! She is a delight. Crumble came to live with us at the beginning of December. She is an absolute sweetheart and is very much loved.”
The comments section quickly filled with heart emojis and emotional reactions.
