As they prepare to welcome their second child next month, Olly Murs and his wife Amelia are giving fans an unfiltered look at the highs and lows of parenthood — and the lessons they’ve learned since welcoming daughter Madison, now 16 months old.
In a heartfelt interview with OK!, Amelia, 32, opened up about the emotional rollercoaster of motherhood, admitting that life after giving birth hasn’t always been the picture-perfect experience people see online.
“Motherhood can be lonely,” Amelia confessed. “I had to have an unplanned C-section because Madison was transverse. The recovery was brutal, and I wish more people were honest about that. I didn’t realise how much I wouldn’t be able to do afterwards — especially when it came to the gym, which is my passion.”
Olly, 40, echoed her honesty, saying parenthood is both beautiful and challenging:
“There’s no point pretending it’s all perfect and Instagram-ready. Being parents is incredible, but it’s also extremely hard. You don’t want to lose who you are — it’s all about finding balance.”
The couple, who tied the knot in July 2023, shared their baby news in April with an adorable black-and-white video showing little Madison perched on her dad’s shoulders, wearing a denim jacket that read “BIG SIS.”
But their journey hasn’t been without struggles. Olly admitted that after Madison was born, he left home just 48 hours later to join Take That on tour — a decision that still weighs heavily on him.
“It was really hard,” he shared. “At the time, I just powered through, but months later I broke down. I realised I’d missed so many of those first moments with her.”
This time, Olly says things will be different:
“Second time around, I’m not going anywhere. I want to be there for every moment.”
Now, as Amelia approaches the final weeks of her pregnancy, the couple is focusing on family time — quiet walks, cuddles with Madison, and preparing their hearts for life as a family of four.
For Olly, who never imagined himself as a dad, the journey has been nothing short of life-changing:
“I still can’t quite believe it. Being a dad is the best thing that’s ever happened to me — and I can’t wait to do it all again.”
