The 39-year-old sports personality announced on X and Instagram on Monday, May 25, that he and Samantha had welcomed their second child together, a baby boy named Midas Robert McAfee.

The couple, who are already parents to daughter Mackenzie Lynn, born in May 2023, revealed that their newest arrival came earlier than expected after Samantha faced serious pregnancy complications. Pat McAfee says wife had emergency C-section to deliver 2nd child - ABC News

“Please help @MrsMcAfeeShow, Mackenzie, and I welcome Midas Robert McAfee to our family,” Pat wrote in his announcement.

He explained that because Samantha had a high-risk pregnancy and severe preeclampsia, doctors made the decision to perform an emergency C-section on Friday night. Pat McAfee new baby

Their son entered the world on May 22 at 10:42 p.m., weighing 6 pounds, 6 ounces. Pat proudly described him as a “screaming young legend” with “10 toes, 10 fingers” and a full head of hair.

Although Midas was born prematurely at 36 weeks, Pat said his son immediately showed strength. In his first moments, the newborn was able to raise his oxygen levels enough to spend precious time in the room with his parents, allowing them to share those first “magical newborn moments.”

After skin-to-skin contact, however, Midas was taken to the neonatal intensive care unit. Doctors placed him on CPAP, gave him a feeding tube, and kept him in a heated pod under a warming lamp to help him develop further. Pat admitted it was scary seeing his baby connected to so many serious medical devices, adding that there was little he could do except move between Samantha and Midas while trying to bring positive energy.

He praised Samantha’s recovery as “inspiring” and said their children will one day understand how much their mother went through for them.

Midas spent around 36 hours in the NICU before being released back to his parents’ room. Once he returned, Pat said the family had a full celebration.

The couple are now excited for baby Midas to go home and meet his big sister Mackenzie, who is 2. Pat thanked their grandparents for keeping Mackenzie informed and distracted while the family remained at the hospital.

Pat also shared the special meaning behind his son’s name. He said he had wanted to name a future son Midas since learning about Greek mythology in high school.

He explained that the name reflects the kind of person he and Samantha hope to raise — someone who treats people well, works hard, helps his community, and brings his own version of “gold” into the world.

Midas’ middle name, Robert, honors Samantha’s late father and best friend. Pat said their son will know his grandfather through stories and photos, adding that they believe Robert will always be watching over him.
